6 care tips for your vacuum cleaner

Your vacuum cleaner is one of the hardest-working tools you have at home. Tasked with the super important job of removing dust and dirt from the carpet, this machine is a must-have. It can significantly help you preserve your carpet in good condition for years to come. 

For the vacuum cleaner do its job for some time, you best invest some care and attention in its maintenance. There are some things you can do to ensure the machine is running smoothly and without any trouble whatsoever: 

Replace that bag regularly

To boost your vacuum cleaner’s performance instantly, you can replace the bag. Don’t ever make a mistake to think that a vacuum cleaner’s bag should only be replaced when it is almost full. However, the truth of the matter is that you best replace the bag when it is only 2/3 full. The debris your vacuum cleaner sucks up require some space to settle inside the bag. If there is very little room remaining, the machine will not pick up any debris. If you ever run the vacuum over an area and find it doesn’t pick up the debris, then it is time to replace the bag. 

Attach the bag properly

There are a ton of different brands, models and vacuum cleaner types out there. It may seem like an easy enough task to do, but always pay special attention to the bag and the way it attaches to the machine. Make sure it is the correct bag and that it is correctly attached before you take the cleaner out for a spin. 

Empty bagless models

Even if you are using a bagless model, you should empty the canister often enough. There is usually a marker indicating when you have to deal with the task. Don’t allow dust and dirt to linger inside, as this greatly reduces the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner. As you empty the canister, clean the attached filter as well. 

Clean the brush rollover

The brush roll accumulates certain debris, which prevents it from spinning as it should. String, hair and floss are the most common culprits. You can try to clear these items with the brush roll in place, or you can detach it and do the task then. While it is out, you can check the roll’s bearings and caps for damage, as well as peek at the inside part of the vacuum. 

Inspect the belt

Once you have checked the brush roll, turn your attention to the belt responsible for keeping the brush roll in place. If you find it is not standing against the roll, then it is a good idea to replace it. In general, it is a good idea to replace it every year to ensure it is in top condition and doing its job well. 

Check the hoses and filters
